We’ve all seen how bad Wales are at team photos by now, right?
Over the years, the Welsh have come up with some of the worst team pictures in football history. Take a look at some of the images lower down the page and you will soon see that there is a long tradition of laughably bad Wales line-ups.
However, something tells us the current squad might now have turned this tradition into a way of trolling the entire world.
First, their picture before Thursday’s game against Austria was almost suspiciously awful:
Wales vs Austria: hmm…
And then they REALLY pushed the boundaries with their line-up before the clash with Georgia:
Wales vs Georgia: okay, lads…
We’re pretty sure it is a wind-up which has been passed down through the years from squad to squad, but as you can see in the video at the top of the page, star man Gareth Bale has refused to give anything away.
When pressed by our friends at Wales Online , Bale said simply: “I don’t know what you’re on about."
Then, when it was put to him that it’s just a matter of Wales being really bad at lining up before games, he shrugged and said “I think it must just be that, yeah.”
We’re not having it Gareth. This has been going on for years now.
Let’s check out out the evidence…
Wales 2-1 Italy (October 2002)
The centering is all off here; what’s Craig Bellamy doing?! Stand up, man! Don’t even get us started on the fact that everyone is looking in different directions – and Robbie Savage appears to have forgotten his hairbrush.
Russia 0-0 Wales (November 2003)
A marked improvement on their photo against Italy, but it does seem like the team had an argument with Ryan Giggs just before they came out of the tunnel.
Wales 2-3 Poland (October 2004)
We’re all for getting the mascots involved to give them a photo they’ll cherish for their lifetime, but the Welsh lads can definitely do better than this. Why is there a chasm in the middle? What’s caught Robbie Savage’s eye? Why didn’t anyone tell Craig Bellamy to get a haircut?
Wales 1-5 Slovakia (October 2006)
Oh dear, it’s back to the bizarrely lopsided phase – and Jason Koumas has opted for a casual knee lean as opposed to squat. Although there is one saving grace in that you can’t see keeper Paul Jones’ dodgy barnet, which has "50" shaved into it to mark his 50th cap. A day to forget all round.
Serbia 6-1 Wales (September 2012)
Ahead of their heaviest defeat in some time, Wales lined up for this pre-match effort. Not too bad, we’ve got to say – certainly an improvement on previous efforts – but they’ve clearly overcompensated on previous efforts with an overloaded front row. Plus, we can’t help but think they look a little like a synchronised swimming team with those jackets on.
Wales 1-0 Belgium (June 2015)
Aside from the fact it looks like Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey are long-lost brothers (and Joe Ledley’s turned up straight from chopping trees), this actually isn’t too bad an effort. We’ll give them the benefit of the doubt and won’t mention that the bottom row are gradually going in a strange curve and Chris Gunter seems to have hopped slightly in front of everyone else…
