Get Your Mind in the Gutter!
Do you have an idea for a street, curb or sidewalk near you? Contribute a text description of your design and an image of the site here to help us build the Gutter Gallery!
Before posting, please consider the following…
1. Your idea can be at a conceptual- or construction-level of detail OR your project could already be implemented.
2. Your site should be an actual location within the five boroughs of NYC.
3. Your intervention should divert road runoff and manage it within the street- or sidewalk-scape.
Stormwater management in the right of way is a complicated animal. We recognize that microconditions at each site are going to be unique and that a narrow set of design criteria would not apply to all or even many sites. We ask that you consider the elements listed below that might demonstrate the strength of your intervention. Briefly describe these strengths in the text of your submission if you like.
Does your intervention uniquely highlight any of the following planning, design or monitoring considerations?
• subwatershed delineation
• stormwater capture approximation
• curb treatment
• soils
• vegetation
• new climate hydrographs
• non-point source pollution
• toxics sequestration or remediation
• water table
• bedrock
• existing mature trees
• existing conditions in general
• utilities
• multi function or multiple benefits
• maintenance
• monitoring
• cost efficiency
• pedestrian/bicyclist/driver safety
• educational value
• retrofit vs. new build
